currently discussing in my alchohol & the dysfunctional family class.....

there are 839 deaths nationwide directly due to that of illicit drugs and their use. cigarettes kill about 400,000 people every year. alcohol deaths are somewhere in the 75,000s every year, BUT somehow theres a 34 billion dollar campaign on the war on drugs?! a war that has been on going for over 40 years in which the price, quality and availability of drugs have increased. are you fuckin serious?! maybe i need to say this again: there are 839 deaths nationwide directly due to illicit drugs. oh you know, "the bad drugs": marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc. maybe its just me, but 400,000 sounds like just a tad bit more than 839. just a tad bit more. (i hate how sarcasm doesnt translate well through writing. catch my drift?)

fellow bloggers, dont get me wrong, i, in no way whatsoever condone drug abuse. i am completely aware of the addictive nature of all drugs and have first hand seen their deathly consequences but someone, anyone clear this up for me because my mind is beyond boggled: why does society accept the use of cigarettes, the most addictive substance out there, yet there's such a huge, negative stigma against the users of the "unconventional" drugs just because theyre illegal? we havent discussed this in class yet and i havent looked up the exact stats either but i can just imagine the number of people with throat and lung cancer due to cigarette smoking. you all seen the subway ads. how about the millions of dollars made in profit or spent on cigarette advertisement and distribution? i'm not a believer of labels and all i wish to accomplish from this post is that you arent either. "illegal". WHO CARES? the devil's juice is legal and see what come from that. think about it. 50% of all assaults, rapes, homicides are ALCOHOL related not the illegal drugs. illicit drug related deaths combined are 30% LESS than the death-tolls for alcohol alone. think about it. judge not. practice compassion.

-allowing the numbers speak on my behalf
